Are you hooked on addictive substances such as sugar?
If you are, you’re not alone. I was once a sugar addict until I realize that my health comes first before my taste palettes. Sugar is a secret destroyer and is by far more addictive than cocaine. This secret killer with no nutritional value is hidden in processed foods and beverages.
Sugar is highly addictive because it has the ability to induce the feeling of reward and pleasure which results in the cravings for more. The excessive use of sugar makes our taste buds adapt and crave foods high in sugar which is the reason so much white sugar and synthetic sweeteners such as HFCS ( High Fructose Corn Syrup) are added to our foods. HFCS is a lab-made modified sweetener which skyrocketed in our food supply and is known to be one of the most dangerous ingredients added to packaged foods. To give you an idea of how much fructose is added to a can of coke, you’d have to intake roughly about 4 ripe bananas or 6 cups of strawberries. The amount of sugar added to our food is no accident, its intention is to create the bliss point (the level where the consumers would love the taste most) increasing consumer consumption.
HFCS elevates bad cholesterol(LDL)as well as your blood glucose level causing liver damage, increases obesity, increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, slows down brain functionality and causes poor skin quality. Also, something to keep in mind is that cancer cells thrive off sugar-based diets.
If you need to add sweetener to your tea, coffee, beverage or food it’s recommended to use very minimal amounts of agave or brown sugar. An adult male/ female should intake no more than 25 grams per day and children no more than 12 grams per day in order to avoid developing diabetes. You should aim to keep your blood sugar level between 80-100 mg. We can free our bodies from craving this drug by detoxing or by consuming in moderation. There are natural remedies you can use to lower your blood sugar level and sugar cravings which also aids to improve your health at the same time.
Remember sugar poses severe treats towards one’s health!
